NYU Medical Center

New York University’s (NYU) Langone Medical Center is one of the city’s premiere hospitals. With roots that go all the way back to 1837, this hospital has served literally millions of patients from the New York Metropolitan Area and beyond.

The NYU Cancer Institute is a National Institutes of Cancer-designated Comprehensive Cancer Care Center and has long served as a top U.S. cancer center, priding itself in taking a team approach to the treatment of this disease. NYU employs experts from a variety of disciplines to provide the best care possible in a facility that boasts excellent research facilities and researchers, and possesses the latest equipment that allows for state-of-the-art treatment options.

For mesothelioma patients, NYU Medical Center provides access to a Thoracic Oncology Disease Management Group, which includes surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pulmonary medicine specialists, radiologists, and pathologists who meet weekly to discuss the needs of the individual patient. They specialize in mesothelioma patients who are interested in clinical trials, are candidates for multi-modal therapies, are not eligible for surgery, and those who have previously undergone surgery for malignancies of the chest area.

NYU’s Clinical Cancer Center, an outpatient facility, opened in 2004 and has, since that time, served more than 50,000 cancer patients. The center employs more than 300 medical and support professionals and serves as a home base for the more than 85 percent of cancer patients who receive treatment on an outpatient basis. The facility is arranged by type of cancer, so mesothelioma patients who seek treatment at NYU Medical Center’s clinical care facility are given the opportunity to regularly meet others who are facing similar challenges. Mental health support is also offered at the outpatient facility and social workers can help put patients and families in touch with area agencies and other organizations that may be able to provide non-medical assistance to meso patients.
