Dr. Manjit Bains
A graduate of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, located in New Delhi, Dr. Manjit Bains, MD, is currently a thoracic surgeon at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. A resident of the U.S. since 1965, Bains completed residencies at Queens (NY) Hospital Center, Cornell University Medical Center, Rochester (NY) General Hospital, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering before accepting his current position.
Board certified in both general and thoracic surgery, Dr. Bains has been on the Sloan-Kettering staff for more than 40 years and has garnered numerous awards for his work with thoracic cancer patients and his research on mesothelioma and other similar cancers. He lists his areas of interest as thoracic surgical oncology; lung cancer; esophageal cancer; mediastinal tumors; mesothelioma; pulmonary metastases; video-assisted thoracic surgery; pulmonary and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, including laser endoscopy; and tracheo-bronchial and esophageal stents.
As a highly-respected professional in his field, Dr. Bains is a member of a number of related organizations and has served on the board of several of these groups. They include the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network, the General Thoracic Surgical Club, and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
His expertise in the field of thoracic surgery has also prompted him to write numerous articles for peer-reviewed medical journals and, in addition, Bains has authored a few books and book chapters as well, all relating to thoracic cancer, its study, and its treatment.
